Go-To Eats

Toronto is a great city for exploring, shopping and eating. If you're looking for a little day trip and some delicious food, there are some great places outside of the downtown core that deserve your visit. Some of my best memories are of spontaneous trips to new places, trying new foods and exploring; Here is a list of my go-to places!

Erin & Belfountain
Honestly one of the cutest little towns that aren't too far from the city. If you're looking for an inspiring cafe experience then you have to hit up The Tin Roof Cafe in Erin. Delicious drinks with monthly/seasonal specials and amazing homemade food and treats; the entire establishment is a renovated garage! If you're into hiking, take a 10-minute drive to neighbouring Belfountain and go for a nature walk in the Conservation Area (part of Forks of the Credit Provincial Park).

Kelly's Bake Shop
Nestled in downtown Burlington, Kelly's offers plant-based cupcakes + treats that are vegan, dairy-free, egg-free, gluten-free, and nut-free but never flavour free. They have their staples and then themed ones to match each month/holiday; if you buy 6 you don't get taxed! If you like cookies, the snickerdoodle ones are the bomb. It's always busy on the weekends but the staff are super friendly and efficient at getting your orders ready.

Lettuce Love Cafe
Lettuce Love is a great spot for some vegan food. The ingredients and products are sourced from sustainable, fair-trade, non-GMO sources, and are local and organically farmed when available. The staff are friendly and can help you pick something tasty on the menu. Lettuce Love just opened a second location in Oakville! The power bowl (seen above) and caesar salad are amazing.

Bar Buca

Bar Buca on Portland (near King Street West) is an Italian-style cafe and bar with a beautifully designed atmosphere and open kitchen/seating arrangement. I typically go here for my takeaway coffee (soy latte), but the menu is fantastic and offers many creative small-plate options. A great spot for a drink with a friend, brunch, or a date.

Margaritas
Located in Baldwin Village, this colourful spot offers some of my fave tacos and margaritas in town. The atmosphere is fun and authentic with lots of throw pillows. It's a great spot to hit up in the summer with friends (patio drinks anyone?) if you're out and about or on your way to Kensington Market.

Fresh Restaurant
Probably one of my all-time favourite vegetarian places and go-to spots when I am hungry. Fresh offers a gluten-free menu and I highly recommend the green poutine, fresh juice, dragon broccoli or the green goddess bowl. Literally amazing and so fresh tasting (pun intended). I went there often when I was doing treatments because the food gave me some much-needed energy and put a smile on my face. My favourite location is Fresh on Crawford.

Sushi Omigoto
The BEST sushi in Mississauga. This place is a typical hangout for my friends and me, plus the menu is excellent. Sushi, hot stone bowls, bento boxes and more, this place has everything you need for a sushi night with friends + a relaxing and moody atmosphere.
